Experience Summary
Coming from a family of teachers, I have been involved in the educational field all of my life. I began my educational career by working in morning and after school programs. Later I continued in education by working at the nationally accredited Early Childhood Research Center teaching 2-5 year olds. While completing my master's degree I was a substitute teacher in the city of Buffalo, NY and an ESL and Spanish tutor at the university level. Once I completed my master's degree I taught Spanish for students in grades 5-12 in the inner city of Buffalo and the suburb of West Seneca, NY. After 2 years of teaching in NY I moved to Charlotte, NC where I have been teaching ESL (grades K-5). In my education career, I have taught and/or tutored every grade level from 2 year olds to adults.
Teaching Style
I have a natural approach teaching style to second language learning. Based on Krashen's research students need to be in an environment that is comforable where they feel they can take risks. I also believe, based on Gardner's research, that students have multiple intelligences. Based on that information I create differentiated lessons which incorporate hands-on activitites, music, etc. We all have the innate ability to learn a language. Second language learning is finding a way to transfer our knowledge we already have in our first language to our second language.
