Experience Summary
I have earned a BS in Human Development and spent time in college volunteering 4 semesters at the Children's Hospital in Austin and at Sims Elementary. At Sims Elementary I worked on reading and writing with first and second graders who are bilingual. I currently work at Children's Medical Center Dallas where I serve as a child life specialist. I provide preparation and support during procedures/surgery, assess development, organize and facilitate therapeutic playrooms, and provide diagnosis education for hospitalized children and their families. I have years of experience working with children who have unique abilities and learning styles. At Children's I work with all ages from neonates up to adults.
Teaching Style
I greatly enjoy working with my patients and teaching them about their diagnosis. Watching them learn and listening to their challenging questions inspires me to continue my own education as an adult. I strongly believe that each child has his/her own learning style and it is your job as a teacher/tutor to tap into that style to reach that student. I focus on children's abilities and what they can accomplish with a little encouragement or guidance. My goal is to teach the student while challenging and stimulating their mind.
