Experience Summary
I have always had a passion for educating children. I attended two different colleges and I value the experience and skills provided by both institutions. I spent two years at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, where I studied elementary education. I interned in a second grade classroom where I provided lesson plans and support to the head teacher. My favorite part of this experience was when I had the chance to sit with the children who were struggling and help them understand the subjects better. I also attended Berklee College of Music where I developed the skills to be able to teach private instruction in voice and piano.
Teaching Style
I love to work with children because it allows me to use my creativity. I tend to use a more kinesethic, hands-on approach in my teaching. I believe that when children are able to have the subject matter displayed to them in a 3D format, they are able to comprehend it's use in the real world. It also keeps their attention span active. For example, once when working on fractions with a student I brought in playdoh that we shaped into a pie. The child was able to create the fractions with their hands and was excited about taking pieces away and counting what was left in the pie. For me, the experience of seeing a child's eyes light up when they are finally able to comprehend something is very rewarding.
