Experience Summary
My life-long pursuit of excellence in academics and education has led to a Magna Cum Laude undergraduate degree with Honors Society Membership in addition to many solid recommendations from accomplished professionals. During my undergraduate years, some of the areas in which I excelled included: music theory and history, piano pedagogy, psychology, Spanish and English composition (including APA and MLA styles). I tutored elementary math and reading comprehension, as well as college 200-level Spanish. My teaching areas included Spanish and piano (for groups and individuals). Since graduation, I am now employed part-time as a group piano instructor.
Teaching Style
The mastery of academic subjects should be a very personally meaningful experience. To educate is to deeply enrich. No teacher should embark on the journey of education with out truly wishing to equip his or her students with the tools they need for the present and future. As a teacher, I have the opportunity to facilitate social and academic growth that allows students to form meaningful connections between the subjects and their personal experiences. The standards I expect my students to achieve are set by the students' individual needs. The theories of developmental psychology direct my approach to helping students reach their full potential. I guide the improvement of their skills by encouraging them to build and refine their habits gradually. I also enhance their understanding of subject matter through scaffolding techniques that develop their schemas. My methods help students understand more about the world and themselves.
