Experience Summary
I hold a Ph.D. in Classics, a multidisciplinary field that focuses on all aspects of the ancient Greek and Roman world. I have mastered Latin and Ancient Greek, and can read Spanish, German, French, and Italian. During my five years working full-time at various universities, I taught literature, history, mythology, archeology, and all levels of Greek and Latin. My expertise in English grammar, and in reading, writing, and organizational skills, is evident in the book and article that I have published. Math, moreover, was always a strong point for me, and I am very good at helping elementary school students in that area. My competence in such a wide range of subjects makes me an excellent candidate for many tutoring assignments. Recently, I tutored a 2nd grader in Reading and Math, an 8th grader in English, Latin, and Study Skills, and a 10th grader in Latin. I am presently assisting a graduate-level nursing student with her writing skills.
Teaching Style
In order to address the full spectrum of learning styles, I incorporate a variety of teaching methods, and I am confident that I will meet your child’s individual needs. While I make my students think hard, and present them with challenging scenarios, I am also very patient and sympathetic. I always reveal the tools needed for success, but only after the student has made an independent effort. While it goes without question that I want your child to master the targeted course material, it also my goal that he or she obtain a desire for additional learning both in future classes and outside of the classroom. I derive immense satisfaction in the knowledge that I am making an important contribution to my community as I help young people become lifelong learners and responsible citizens.
