Experience Summary
Since high school, I have been actively pursuing opportunities to teach individuals new skills. I started off in 1999 as a math tutor for an honor society and moved on to teach reading and vocabulary to children with learning disabilities and English to Spanish speakers by 2001. At the University of Florida, where I graduated cum laude in 2005 with a BS in psychology and BS in statistics, I continued my pursuit of teaching by giving lectures on psychological disorders and various statistical methods. During and following college, I worked with a company, Solutionex, developing programs to assist with everyday data entry tasks. I taught other workers at the company the computer skills they needed to run the programs via Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. My latest tutoring experiences have involved geometry, trigonometry, Algebra II, and calculus. Although I can teach any high school skill, my best strengths are math, grammar and science.
Teaching Style
A great portion of my college experience was spent studying methods of learning in both humans and animals. I found that showing individuals the importance of what they learned as well as aiding them in integrating old information best conveyed and solidified their new ideas. I also acknowledged that a friendly, easygoing environment fostered quicker growth than a strict and punitive one. I like my students to feel comfortable making mistakes so that they can appreciate their errors and grow from them. My teaching style is persistent yet patient, humorous yet serious, and simple yet challenging. In the end, I hope to correct previous misinformation in order to guide students towards the right direction of new knowledge.
