Experience Summary
As a professional educator and life-long student, learning has been my constant priority. I have an M.S. Education, an M.A. Counselor Education, and a B.A. Psychology. My studies have given me a solid understanding of teaching methodologies, content, curriculum, and the unique needs of individual students. I hold subject area certifications in English, Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and Guidance and Counseling, and I have earned basic intensive certification with the William Glasser Institute Quality School model. I am currently employed as a Grade 8 Advanced Language Arts public school teacher and am excited to add to my professional skills and knowledge by attending the 2011 AVID Summer Institute in Orlando, FL.
Teaching Style
I am passionate about helping students to achieve academic success. I love the challenge of discovering the strategies that best match a student's individual strengths and learning style. I provide a positive learning environment that fosters the student openness and trust necessary for growth and learning to occur. My students have described me as “respectful,” “helpful,” and “caring,” and they recently responded with a 98% teacher effectiveness rating on an anonymous public middle school classroom climate survey. I have seen in my career that all students can achieve their academic goals when given appropriate, positive, learning experiences. I am thrilled to be entrusted with the awesome responsibility and privilege of teaching.
