Experience Summary
I have obtained two degrees in psychology, a BS and an MA. Prior to my training in psychology, I trained for two years in engineering, giving me extensive experience in math and physics. During graduate school I gained extensive experience in writing essay and research papers. I have tutored fellow students throughout high school, college, and graduate school. For the last four months I have taught reading development to students of all ages, from pre-readers ages 4-5 to a speed reading course for college students and adults. I have worked extensively with children of varying ages and enjoy working with, and teaching, a variety of age groups.
Teaching Style
Teaching is about much more than the transfer of information from one individual to another. As educators we are given an opportunity to play a unique role in helping students discover and achieve new potential. With the passing along of information, educators shape the way that students understand the world and their place in it. But much more is conveyed through teaching than just information. The teacher’s attitude or way of being toward the subject matter is communicated as well. Certainly there are numerous other factors that contribute to a student’s willingness and ability to explore and grow as a person. But I don’t think it can be denied that a teacher can have a powerful impact on a student’s growth as well. I intend to take up these principles and utilize my role as a teacher to aid students in their growth as individuals and in discovering new possibilities for themselves.
