Experience Summary
The greatest day of my life was achieving my Bachelors degree in Biological Chemistry from the University of Texas at Arlington. It was an overwhelming sense of gratification to know the many years of hard work, determination and persists paid off. The following are the experiences I had in tutoring students. I tutored chemistry for two years, and really found that I loved helping people achieve their goals. Through experience I have learned that not everyone learns a certain way and by observing each student I’m able to understand what might work best for them. This last year and a half I was a teacher at Carlos Vigil Middle School. I instructed a computer based program for at-risk students to earn credits to graduate from high school. I taught them basic math, algebra, and biology. The passing rate doubled from 33% to 70% in one semester.
Teaching Style
I think tutoring students involves a lot of different techniques, considering students learn different ways. I found being patient is probably one of the most important parts of teaching. I worked with probably the hardest age group, freshmen. I learned that repetition was a great way to get them to learn. In math I would have them do the same type of problems with different numbers numerous times. This technique really worked and I was able to teach anybody. It made me feel good when students would tell me “thank you, I thought I would never learn that”. That gave me great self satisfaction knowing I made a difference in this person’s life. I embody the willingness to give all that I have to ensure my knowledge is past on.
