Experience Summary
Coming from a family comprised exclusively of teachers, education has been a highly valued and often discussed aspect of my life. While I chose not to earn my degree in education, I made sure teaching was still a part of my personal development through substitute teaching and tutoring while traveling abroad. Today I continue to enjoy learning and increasing my grasp on a wide variety of subjects.
Teaching Style
The world of today is marked by an over abundance of information. An internet search on any subject yields thousands of results, often with conflicting ideas. Critical thinking is now more important than ever. I take this point of view into tutoring sessions in that I challenge the student to understand the process, as opposed to just memorizing the steps. Through strengthening general thought processes and decision making skills, the student benefits in all subjects while learning a particular item. I work hard to keep the session fun and the gaining of knowledge a pleasure. Having traveled through nearly fifty countries, I can also offer a uniquely international perspective. Most importantly, I understand that the benefit of tutoring is the highly specialized attention the child can receive. Thus, I make assessing, and adapting to, the specific needs of each child a top priority.
