Experience Summary
I have been in education for eight years, where I specialized in second language acquisition, ESOL, literacy, grammar, high school language and literature, and intermediate-level language arts. I also have taught at 3 different colleges: Furman University, where I taught graduate level TESOL classes; Converse College, where I taught graduate level TESOL classes, and Greenville Technical College, where I taught adult-level grammar, writing, and listening and speaking classes. My experience ranges from grades 4 to college-level teaching; however, my favorite is teaching adults in small group settings. I am used to working with students from a variety of diverse backgrounds, including many ethnicities from around the world, students with learning disabilities, advanced students, and those struggling with reading, writing, and literacy.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is a reflection of the way I live my life. I am rather laid back with a good sense of humor, but I know when and how to work hard. I conduct my classes in a fun yet purpose-driven fashion. I believe all students can reach their goals with appropriate motivation from a teacher and self-efficacy on their part; however, I also believe not all students can be reached in the same way. Many students have obstacles to learning, be they internal or external, and those must first be addressed in order to determine the correct path to take in teaching the student. I view myself as a strong teacher, but also as an educational facilitator who strives to guide students to their own realizations instead of handing them what I feel is the "right" way.
