Experience Summary
My career path has been filled with various tutoring and teaching activities. I taught high school English for three years and am currently teaching community college English. I began tutoring on a volunteer basis for fun in college and continued to do so during graduate school on a paid basis. I am also a published freelance writer with three years of corporate communications experience.
Teaching Style
My tutoring and teaching experience has introduced me to Derek who has no surviving family members, Mike who has abusive family members, Paul who has been tracked inappropriately, and many others with discouraging situations. Rather than let their hardships be crutches or barriers, I approach their capabilities no differently than the highest academically tracked students with pleasant home lives. I just adjust to their paces. I believe that, as Mike Rose says, “Students will float to the mark you set.”
