Experience Summary
Throughout my years as a teacher I have gained a great deal of teaching experience and taught in a number of different cultures which has helped me to develop a better understanding of how to connect with people. I have taught in four Florida counties, as well as three foreign countries, and I have had the opportunity to teach every age level, from pre-school students to the elderly.
I have been privileged enough to teach in places like Egypt, Malta, and France. I taught everything from Business and Conversational English, to Art and Science. My students have ranged from ages 3 to 90. These student populations were from every corner of the globe and some spoke limited or no English. I found myself in situations where only body language would get my point across, but that is exactly what I did when the occasion called for it. Resourcefulness and flexibility became a way of life for me during my international teaching and traveling experiences.
I volunteered part-time in an English reading program for adults in Immokalee, Florida. Many of these adult learners did not read in their native language so learning to speak and read in English was quite a challenge for them. The reading program was small, but very helpful for a number of non-English speakers. Working in this tiny migrant farm workers village was very similar to living and working in a foreign country. It was highly rewarding.
During my international experiences I also did private tutoring for students in Egypt and in Malta. A number of them needed additional tutoring in Science, Language Arts, and Art, so I assisted them through private tutoring.
