Experience Summary
I have always valued and strived for a well-rounded education. I graduated with a BS in Economics and minored in Japanese. My knowledge and understanding of the Japanese culture and language is not limited to that, however. As a junior in high school, I spent a year living in Japan as a foreign exchange student, fully immersed in the language and culture. Then, after graduating from college, I worked in Japan as an English instructor at a public junior high school for two years where I furthered my study of the Japanese language. This has also contributed to my passion for linguistics, which has led to my extensive knowledge of grammar and syntax. In 2007, I passed the 2nd grade of the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test).
Teaching Style
I very much enjoy watching a child progress in their academic endeavors and take great pride in helping them do so. Because each student’s needs differ and require me to adapt to their own, unique way of learning, listening attentively and being patient are by far the most effective ways in helping fulfill those needs. As I would be teaching a foreign language, I find that focusing on grammar and making it accessible through both audible and graphical means is most effective but make sure not to neglect the other parts inherent to language acquisition.
