Experience Summary
I have tutored in a variety of subjects for over eight years. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from a prestigious New England college and was a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University, where I also tutored. I won honors for a 100 page thesis which I successfully defended in front of a committee of three professors (including two departmental chairs).
I have tutored in English, History, Social Studies, etc. I also taught a GED math course while serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA. For the past year, I have been employed by a professional tutoring company, specializing in academic coaching, organizational skills, study strategies, test-taking preparation and essay writing.
I have a significant amount of experience tutoring at the middle school, high school and college levels.
Teaching Style
I primarily offer tutorial services to students in the humanities with particular emphasis on organizational skills as they affect classroom success. Mindful of the wide-ranging research in cognitive styles, learning differences and more recently, multiple intelligences, I make every effort to suit a student’s learning style. I will refer to evaluation reports, educational plans and any anecdotal information that may be useful in servicing our clients. I tutor on site and after school.
I believe success is not an end product; rather it is a continuous progression. Student achievement is measured by qualitative, ongoing performance, as well as quantitative indicies. The goal of my educational mediation is to help students organize and manipulate content so as to successfully contribute to their learning.
