Experience Summary
As a student of St. Petersburg College Impact program, I had the opportunity to student teach to elementary aged students and high school students who were categorized as ESE. I had experience working with the students in one-on-one situation as well as in small groups. Many of the students needed help in math, reading and English. Since the students were considered to be LD (learning disabled) or EH (emotionally handicapped), extra patience was needed on my part. I found it very rewarding to work with these students because in spite of the odds, they were very receptive, appreciative and bright. I would love to have a chance to help students who are struggling succeed.
Teaching Style
I would consider my style of teaching to be very patient and positive. I believe that all children can learn given the right amount of patience and time. I believe that children have many learning styles and strengths and it is important to let the child find their way. I believe we as people have multi-intelligences, and what works for one person may not work for the next person. I also believe there is more than one way to come up with the correct answer. My goal would be to allow the child to learn to teach himself and feel comfortable about learning, not scared and intimidated.
