Experience Summary
I have always loved to learn. In college, I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BS in Biology. However, I made it a point to minor in Chemistry and Linguistics and to certify in American Sign Language. I have always had the desire to achieve the highest goals I could set for myself. While taking on the classes mentioned above, I learned great organizational skills and drive. I helped students at the University whenever they needed it. I started a tutoring program in my Calculus II class, and tutored students in this topic. I have also put in extensive time at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. This has allowed me to tutor and assist ill children with missed homework assignments. Also, through the hospital I have learned to be sensitive to each child and each family. I also learned excellent planning and time distribution by planning many activity days, music sessions, and movies days at the hospital.
Teaching Style
I am taking a class in my Master's program in which I have learned six different educational methods to use with students. Each method is different, and I have been able to learn and work through each of them. I am confident in my ability to concentrate learning through cooperative groups, presentations, direct instructions, problem based and discovery topics, concept lessons, and disscusions. I have also been taught in each lesson how to edit the lesson for English Language Learners, gifted students, and students who need more support. I believe that each child learns in their own unique way. Therefore, the best way to teach a student would be to understand the way they learn best, and then cater the tutoring and teaching to meet their indiviual needs.
