Experience Summary
This week I am graduating Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy NY with a degree in computer and systems engineering. For the past four years I have been working at NASA and our nations leading research institutions to gain a strong background in computer and systems engineering.
My goal for this summer is to begin a tutoring position to help students with math and writing and inspire future engineers by relating the subject matter they are working to exciting engineering opportunities that exist in the community.
My teaching experience includes work as a teaching assistant (TA) for embedded control at RPI and taught summer classes in computer graphics at the East Hartford Glastonbury Magnet School. In addition I have a strong background in technical writing, recently publishing a second research paper for AIAA.
Teaching Style
Math can be fun, especially when applied to exciting applications. For my work at NASA and the MITRE Corporation I use concepts from Calculus I-II almost everyday. Inspiring students to become excited about math and science is one of my life-long goals.
Step by step visual diagrams can be effective tools for describing complex ideas. From my experience as a teacher and student I have had great success creating simple graphics to accompany otherwise dense math equations for circuits, data structures and statistics.
This teaching style coupled with a fresh knowledge of math material as a graduating senior make me confident that I can be an asset to your team this summer. I will be returning to my home in Connecticut May 18th and would welcome the opportunity to and discuss starting work at Advanced Learners!
