Experience Summary
I would be a strong asset as a tutor given my 14 years of experience in the business world, including launching a successful start-up as an entrepreneur. I have spent four years training clients and employees on software applications and business processes. My business background gives me additional credibility with students and by sharing my skills and experiences, I can help prepare students for the real world outside the classroom. I can teach skills such as leadership, business writing, communication and entrepreneurship, in addition to being qualified to teach various subjects such as social studies, writing and reading. In preparing for my career transition to education, I took the Praxis II Exam for Social Studies Content Knowledge and scored in the top 15th percentile nationally. This score gives me Highly Qualified status to teach U.S. History, World History, Economics, Government, Geography and Behavioral Sciences.
Teaching Style
I have a real passion for teaching, and tutoring allows me to have a strong connection with children and a better understanding of their learning preferences so that I may help them reach their goals. I am a life long learner and am enthusiastic about my subject matter. My students learn to share my enthusiasm for the material, and learn more productively as a result. I believe that in being patient, thoughtful and knowledgeable, students respond well to me and my teaching style. I bring an interdisciplinary approach to the material and am a proponent of the “Writing as Thinking” methodology as a way to teach effective writing. Great teachers can make a positive difference in a child's life and that is my ultimate goal as a tutor.
