Experience Summary
After receiving my teaching credential from Biola University, I eagerly accepted a permanent substitute position at Mission Hills Chrisitian School. The following year, I was asked to teach science along with several other subjects in the junior high school. I thoroughly enjoyed this position for three years until the birth of our son. During my years teaching junior high, I had the pleasure of tutoring several students in math, reading, and study skills. I have been blessed with the honor of homeschooling my two boys for the past six years. My older son has dyslexia, and I began tutoring him with the Barton reading and spelling system this year. I have also taught history classes at our local homeschool co-op for both junior high and high school.
Teaching Style
I believe each child has his or her own style of learning, and part of the joy of teaching is discovering a child's unique way of achieving academic success. I believe a hands-on approach is crucial in mastering and applying new information. I believe all children have the ability to learn when they are given the keys to unlock their learning style. I believe learning should be fun and not frustrating. I know that teachers can have a huge impact in their students' lives. Children need to be encouraged and mentored. I feel blessed to help children unlock their academic potential.
