Experience Summary
While pursuing a Master's degree in Sociology, I served as a tutor for at-risk student athletes who were struggling with their undergraduate courses. While I was technically hired by the athletic department to assist students with their English classes and preparation for the Regent's exam, I found myself tutoring students in a number of subjects. Some of these subjects included college algebra, history, biology, geology, and theatre. In addition to my experience as a tutor, I double majored in English and Speech and Theatre Arts as an undergraduate, and graduated magna cum laude. As a graduate student I maintained a 4.0 grade point average and finished a Master's thesis. I have extensive experience as a researcher and writer, and now work as a full-time education researcher at a univeristy.
Teaching Style
I have always loved to learn and enjoy sharing this love with others. I believe that a successful teacher is an individual who is perceptive and flexible. A teacher's first job is to interpret a child's learning behavior, and his or her second job is to teach. Not all children learn the same, and it is important to recognize and embrace this. With this in mind, my teaching philosophy is based on creating the appropriate learning environment by ensuring that the student is comfortable. Additionally, I believe in creatively presenting information, and working to build upon knowledge that is already in place. With the right conditions, all children can learn and be successful.
