Experience Summary
I knew I always wanted to work with children and I have loved all of my teaching experiences. I pushed myself to get a dual certification in Elementary and Special Education from Duquesne University. Out of college I had a few long-term sub positions in area school districts before getting a full time teaching position at Charters Valley School District. At Charters Valley I taught eighth grade learning support for 4 years before transferring to be third grade classroom teacher for 2 years. My learning support classroom had a range of disabilities from reading difficulty to autism. While teaching at Charters Valley, I continued my education and by getting my Master’s Equivalency in education. I tutored while I was teaching full time and even tutored a few students who were home schooled due to medical issues. I quit my teaching position to raise my child. I do stay connected to the education field by tutoring and I have graded the PASA for the past five years. I truly do enjoy teaching and it keeps me connected to teaching.
Teaching Style
I love working with children and helping them be the best they can be. Through my teaching experiences I have discovered that each child learns different and I feel it is my job as a teacher to recognize the child’s strengths. Once I know the child’s leaning style and strengths, I will build off of that information and present the material in a way that will bring the child success. As a teacher my number one goal is to help each child succeed with the least amount of stress. My best quality is patience and I take pride in that. I feel just as happy as my students when they achieve the success that they strive for. My teaching style has always been driven by what my students need. I will explain a concept different ways to help each child understand to the best of their ability. I became a teacher to help pass on the knowledge children need. I love being a teacher because I truly enjoy children and working with them.
