Experience Summary
My current position as a 9th and 10th grade Language Arts teacher at Booker T. Washington High School in Miami, as well as my previous English and ESL teaching experience at Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, makes me an ideal tutor. I am presently immersed in the full Reader XL and Language Arts curriculum. Additionally, I have intermediate level Spanish knowledge as well as a strong background in Journalism and the Dramatic Arts. I am presently tutoring my students as well as others in the school in reading, writing, and FCAT prep. Reading, writing and FCAT prep are also part of my daily lesson plans.
Teaching Style
Implementing Vigotsky's theory of scaffolding as well as the Dewian philosophy on critical thinking skills, I am able to reach several students who are at various developmental levels. As a tutor, I am a great listener and have the patience to work with a myriad of students. I can quickly assess areas in which a student needs the most help. I love working with kids and I look forward to helping your child excel. Through a process I can help your student build mastery in difficult areas.
