Experience Summary
As a graduate from Peabody College, I have had terrific hands-on experience from a first-rate institution. The University as well as on-site practicum work has inspired me to spread a knowledge of Spanish through fun and interesting ways. I also stress cultural awareness as I specifically focused in multicultural education and had the opportunity to live in Montevideo, Uruguay and Santiago, Chile for a year and half. During my career I had the opportunity to work with struggling students and students with special needs as well as culturally diverse students, keying on their specific learning styles. Over the past years I have worked both in a classroom setting as well as giving lessons to students on an individual basis. I believe strongly in positive reinforcement and in establishing rapport with every student as well as with the parents. I have earned both a Bachelor's degree in Spanish as well as a Masters in Special Education, and have an immense knowledge of Latino culture.
Teaching Style
As a special education teacher, I have tremendous patience and have seen tremendous progress, measured both in small steps and in giant leaps. I am a strong believer in individualized education, and subscribe to the theory that each child can achieve greatness. My goal is to influence each student with humor, hands-on activities and first-hand applicable experience. It is also important that as a tutor, I use audio-visual materials to strike every learning chord. I also strongly believe that students learn best through a mix of guided and independent practice, and a positive and stress-free learning environment. All students have the capability to achieve, and can reach their ultimate goals of success when confronted with real-world applicable opportunities as well as with rote practice. I am passionate about teaching and will exude an air of exuberance to make a difference in each student's educational career and hopefully in his or her life.
