Experience Summary
I am a recent college graduate who has demonstrated academic excellence in all subject areas. Particularly, I excelled in mathematics and became a math tutor while completing my AS degree. In doing so, I discovered a genuine love for the subject and an enthusiasm for teaching others. I recently obtained a BA in psychology where I learned a great deal about human behavior that will assist me in relating to other students. As I also completed a minor in mathematics, I understand the patience required in learning complex topics, and have empathy towards those having difficulty with subject matter. I feel prepared to encourage and motivate students if they become frustrated. While I consider mathematics my forte, I feel confident assisting students in most subject areas.
Teaching Style
Often students claim to "hate" a particular topic, which can arouse a certain amount of anxiety, hindering the learning process. I respond with an energetic teaching style that emphasizes practice and repetition in order to build a thorough understanding of the subject. I feel it is important to have a variety of explanations for any concept and adapt my presentation to accommodate various learning styles. With my support, students will take responsibility for learning and for asking questions when they don't understand something. I attempt to help students see learning as an activity that provides a basis for not only education, but for success throughout many areas of life. I maintain a friendly, supportive relationship with students, acknowledge them for their accomplishments, and encourage improvement to instill confidence and a sense of self-worth one draws from academic achievement.
