Experience Summary
I earned my Bachelors degree in Oregon and starting substituting there on my way to a permanent position. In Oregon, you must have a teaching certificate to sub. By the time my first year ended, they had passed a tax reform bill and were actually laying teachers off. I came to Florida in hopes of getting a teaching position, but found the attitudes on education much different and chose to go another route. I still substitute regularly. I also worked as a Teaching Assistant for a First grade classroom. I also tutored for a national franchize for one year until someone else took over the business. I tutored mostly reading and other elementary subjects. I plan to teach English to Spanish speaking students and adults next year and would like more experience with teaching adults.
Teaching Style
I like to teach with a hands on learning method. I believe both children and adults learn better when they can see it, hear it and feel it whenever possible. I think everyone is capable of achieving academic success if shown the best way they can learn and how to use their skills in every day life. Educators do make all the difference in the world. Learning is something we all do every day.
I love to read and believe reading is a great way to learn. While expanding your vocabulary you can travel to foreign countries, see an experience from someone else's viewpoint or let your imagination soar.
My goal is to foster the love of learning to everyone I come in contact with in some way.
