Experience Summary
In 2004, I graduated from the University of Virginia majoring in Psychology and Studio Art. While there I tutored at Miller School (a private 6-12 institution). I worked with two Korean ESL students who especially needed help in reading and composition. Their parents invited me to Korea for five weeks in the summer of 2003 to continue working with them. Upon my return, I continued to help them in their studies until I graduated. In 2004 I was hired at Futures High School, a private California school grades 7-12 with personalized instruction. I taught all math up to pre-calculus and statistics and all sciences. I also created and instituted an accredited art seminar class.
Teaching Style
My teaching style morphs in order to suit the needs of the student. Working with so many different students one-on-one has enlightened me to the particularities of learning. Each one of my students learned in a different way. Some were more visual, others more theorem/rule based. I try to hone in on what their strengths are and build from there. I also have them do a half-hour of the assignment as soon as they finish their lesson. It seems to help them retain the information.
