I also have an MBA, which taught me how to communicate effectively and work well with others. Additionally, I have one year of mathematics tutoring experience. During graduate school, I tutored undergraduate students for one semester in subjects ranging from “Algebra II” to “Calculus II”. In Nashville, I tutored students at Franklin High School for one semester in subjects ranging from “Algebra I” to “Calculus I” as a volunteer for the PHAT Star Tutoring Program. Finally, I believe that my greatest asset as a tutor is my passion. I have a zeal for working with others and helping them to achieve their goals.
Teaching Style
I believe that successful tutoring begins with establishing a relationship with the tutee. Once I have an idea of his/her personality and learning style, I adjust my tutoring methods to fit the needs of that particular tutee. So for example, if a student is an auditory learner I try to involve more tutoring processes in which he/she listens in order to learn the information. However, generally speaking there are two heuristic practices that I like to follow. The first is to talk as a little as possible in order to allow the tutee to guide the flow of the session. I control the session by asking pointed questions that ease him/her in the appropriate direction. Secondly, I have the tutees teach me the information they are attempting to learn. By teaching the material, they are able to assess their level of understanding for the subject.
