Experience Summary
As an English instructor for over twelve years, I have taught many courses such as Advanced Placement Writing (and consequently prepared students for the AP exam each spring), College Prep Composition, Basic Literature, Journalism, and American Literature. At the college level, I have taught Freshman Composition and Speech. Over the years, I have tutored students in writing, grammar and basic study skills.
Teaching Style
I believe that every young person should have the opportunity to realize his or her potential. In my experience, I've learned that understanding where a student is at, rather than where we think he or she should be, is vital. I am an excellent listener, and I strive to help students with their self-awareness; knowing one's strengths and weaknesses is empowering. I also believe young people have a natural desire to learn, and it's a matter of finding an effective hook to motivate them.
