Experience Summary
My experiences are extensive both academically and in real world applications which serve to bring what students learn and study to life. I have advanced degrees, an MS in Clinical Psychology providing training in learning including evaluation of learning strengths and styles, motivation and an MFA in creative writing bringing the joy of reading, a thorough grasp of grammatical structure as applied to technical writing, nonfiction and fiction. My BS from Tulane was an honor's in Psychology with a minor in Math. My experiences are extensive both academically and in real world applications which serve to bring what students learn and study to life.
Teaching Style
With experience and training in psychology and evaluation, I bring a unique approach to working with each child as an individual, quickly assessing learning style, making the most of strengths while coaxing the gradual improvement of what is more challenging. One thing I've learned is that all of us love doing what we are good at and success breeds more success so working with that success, tapping into your child's perception of self as learning, productive, and accomplishing whatever goals they set for themselves. Success breeds success and a good teacher creates an environment that begins at a nexus of challenge sufficient to excite and entertain while also possible. I believe that positive reinforcement is effective and discouragement can be avoided.
