Experience Summary
I have had a variety of experiences in education from middle school through high school. I primarily have taught high school biology and aquatic science; however, through all my years as an educator, I have been heavily involved in tutoring reading and math. I spent three years as a special education teacher's aide, working directly with all levels of mainstreamed special ed students in a variety of classroom settings. Recently, I worked in a Communities-In-Schools fifth grade after-school tutoring program in math, reading and science.
Teaching Style
I get along well with all types of students and feel that building a good rapport is the key to successful tutoring. As a high school drop-out, who later achieved a college degree, I have the ability to connect with students who often struggle in a mainstream classroom setting. I have experience dealing with students of all ages. I am a firm believer of hands-on learning and feel that students need to take ownership of their own learning.
