Experience Summary
As a student, I entered the field of biology both personally and professionally with a great deal of focus and dedication, acquiring not only a bachelors degree in biology, but accepting both teaching and research positions that allowed me to gain a wide range of experience in the field as well.
As a teacher, I have had experience instructing marine biology to students from grade four through college in Florida, California, Costa Rica, Belize, Tahiti, Fiji, and New Zealand, delivering hands-on lectures and activities with topics ranging from coral reef ecology in the tropics to kelp forest biology in the frigid waters off Santa Catalina Island. However, my skills are not confined to marine biology. I have also had experience tutoring HS biology as well, covering a range of topics from genetics to invertebrate zoology to human anatomy and physiology.
Teaching Style
I have always believed that a person who is shaping young minds should love what they are teaching to their students. I have a contagious passion for biology that is unyielding, and my students always benefit from this instruction, whether developing a love for it themselves, or simply by succeeding in my classes. I understand the mentality of young adults and am aware of the types of instruction they require in order to succeed. I know how to utilize a variety of strategies to facilitate their understanding of biology and help them reach their full potential. My patience, diligence, and love of biology make me an excellent candidate for tutoring middle and high school students.
