Experience Summary
I have spent most of the past thirteen years in university settings. During that time I was fortunate enough to have several gifted mentors who helped me greatly improve my writing ability. A significant part of my work required writing and included composition of regulatory documents, laboratory protocols, summary reports and legal correspondence. I was invited to act as a peer reviewer for a nationally distributed journal and also participated in national procedure review committees.
My teaching experience includes preparation of lectures and laboratories pertaining to fish health issues for fish health professionals, veterinary students and the public. I was a tutor for an adult literacy program for five years and more recently I have been instructing children from kindergarten to fifth grade in science topics.
Teaching Style
I thoroughly enjoy teaching and look forward to doing more of it. A few outstanding teachers had a strong, positive impact on my life and I hope that some of my own students can say the same about me. I believe that learning should be a stimulating and enjoyable experience; this belief has only been reiterated by my experiences with the Mad Science program. All children have learning strengths and one of my primary goals is to determine what those are for each child that I tutor, and then foster that child's learning via those strengths whenever possible.
