Experience Summary
I currently possess a bachelor’s degree in biological science from Keystone College as well as my PA Instructional Certification for Secondary Education in Biology, which I obtained from Drexel University. I meet NCLB’s Highly Qualified Teacher requirements, which means I am highly qualified to teach biology to any student in grades 7-12. I completed my student teaching at Lackawanna Trail High School where I taught 7th grade life science and 10th grade biology. Soon after this experience, I was hired as a full-time substitute biology teacher at Montrose Area High School where I taught 6 classes of biology including 10th grade college prep biology and 11th & 12th grade AP biology.
Teaching Style
I am a firm believer that teaching style should encompass diversity of instruction and assessment because the students themselves are very diverse. I will begin each lesson with an agenda and an intended learning goal. Instruction of the lesson will be delivered through a variety of media including text, videos, animations, etc. that would enhance the student’s learning. The student will then be given many opportunities to refine their understanding of the lesson through independent research during which I will provide insight and motivation wherever possible. Their assessment of the learning goal would range from a simple pen & paper test or quiz to an activity that allows to them to apply their attainment of the learning goal.
