Experience Summary
My first opportunities to teach began as an undergraduate, where I was tutoring my peers in most basic science topics. My most significant undergraduate teaching experience was an opportunity I created for myself leading weekly review and problem solving sessions for undergraduate Organic Chemistry courses.
In addition to extensive experience as a tutor, While I was required to perform typical Teaching Assistant experience in graduate school, I sought additional opportunities in the local academic community. Throughout most of my graduate education I maintained a position as an adjunct faculty member at Mesa Community College (MCC) in Mesa, AZ., where I taught introductory Biology courses to science majors.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is best characterized as unique, practical, and demonstration oriented, and I believe that the combination of these characteristics make me an above average instructor. My words are selected carefully; I specifically chose the words unique and practical based on my methods for introducing topics. In general, I find it most effective when I introduce obscure and/or hard to grasp scientific concepts via ordinary everyday things and ideas that students are used to thinking about. This makes difficult topics seem more approachable and significantly easier to grasp.
