Experience Summary
I am passionate about helping people. Teaching has enabled me to fuel that passion into an English classroom setting. I enjoy being around students and helping them solve their academic problems. With a degree in Psychology and experience in helping youth, I strive to understand the process behind the problem. Vocabulary, grammar, writing and reading are all working together to create comprehension of various skills and needed practices. It is my desire to simplify the subject of English and motivate the student to succeed. My BA in English has given me the foundation to invite students to put aside their fears or concerns regarding the subject of English and to look at it from a different perspective.
Teaching Style
Beyond the subject matter and what I will be teaching, I have to spend some time getting to know the child. If I do not take the time to make them feel important and show that they have value, then the teaching part is meaningless. A relationship has to be established not only between a teacher and a student but, between two human beings. I like creating a safe environment where students feel comfortable enough to ask the most basic questions and ask for help on challenging problems. My job is to encourage, support and cheer on their efforts in the learning process. I enjoy being creative with my teaching style and will often have students "think outside the box" when learning a new task.
