Experience Summary
I have varied career in government and industry spanning eighteen years. I excel in internal auditing, internal controls, compliance, fraud detection/prevention/deterrence in the federal, state, and local government, construction, healthcare and non-profit industries including development and establishment of the internal audit function and the requisite tools, templates, procedures, and training, as well as process improvement and the development and establishment of policies and procedures. I have not held a position where training/teaching was not critical to success, whether the students were employees, management, or colleagues.
Teaching Style
Quite simply, people are different. Accordingly, people learn differently. The real skill in teaching any subject is the ability to notice when a student, who for all intents and purposes has the capacity to succeed in a particular subject, but does not seem to be able to achieve such success.
My approach to teaching is to listen to the “student”. Do the questions they ask seem to reflect confusion or do they ask no questions which may indicate they are so confused they don’t know what to ask? Flexibility is key, and changing my approach or supplementing it with other methods to assist the student walk away from the class or lesson knowing more and being able to apply that knowledge, is my focus.
