Experience Summary
The study of language has played a major role in my life since I was young, when I pieced together bits of Spanish from the native speakers in my extended family, and then through high school where I studied Spanish more intensely. In college, I turned my focus to Classics. Study of Latin and Greek at the University has strongly reinforced my understanding of not only grammar but literature, philosophy, and culture. I have been tutoring Latin for two years, with 8 years of experience tutoring language and teaching guitar lessons. I have also completed UNL's NCAA training program for tutoring Student Athletes, certifying in Scientific Greek and Latin. Next year, I will begin the Classics PhD program at University of Wisconsin.
Teaching Style
Latin is notorious in the modern world for being considered dry and irrelevant, but I like to take a more modern approach, influenced by my study of Spanish. I believe that all students, of varying degrees and preparation, can find use of and success in Latin, Spanish, and the overall study of grammar. As a teacher, I am easy going, patient, and completely non-judgmental, understanding that not all students want to be scholars of Latin or language. I try to emphasize the variety of other benefits the study provides, including success on standardized tests for college, graduate school, medical school, and beyond. Overall, I love working with students of all ages, and I firmly believe in the process of one on one instruction.
