Experience Summary
As an Ivy League graduate, I have a solid academic foundation. In addition to my BS, I also have an MBA. Furthermore, I have completed the coursework for a PhD in management science, which included several doctoral level math and statistics courses. I have been teaching math and statistics for 15 years at a variety of schools, ranging from career colleges to elite research universities. Although I have taught primarily at the college level (undergraduate and graduate), I have tutored and served as a substitute teacher at the grade school/high school levels.
Teaching Style
When I work with students individually, I do not use pre-planned lessons. I assess their needs and develop custom tutoring sessions for their maximum benefit. I like teaching math because math problems all have a specific technique or method. Very little memorization is required. All math problems of a certain topic are completed using the the same methodology. Getting students to realize that is the key. Students who struggle in math will look at two homework problems in a section of a textbook and see two completely different problems. Once they understand the methodology is the same, they will begin to see the same problem repeated with different numbers (instead of two different problems). That is when I know I am successful.
