Experience Summary
I have always loved to read and write, and my love of the written word is what led me to obtain both my BA and MA in British and American Literature. I had the opportunity to begin teaching at the College level when I was in my Master's program and continued teaching College Writing courses to Freshmen for two years after I graduated. After moving to Lincoln, Nebraska to begin work on my Ph.D. I started working at a Writing Center at a local Community College. My two years experience as a Writing Tutor has given me the wonderful opportunity to hone my skills as a tutor and teacher and to learn to help student's with varying needs; including, ESL, non-traditional adult students, and those with learning challenges.
Teaching Style
I greatly enjoy working as a tutor. While shy by nature, I have been willing to get up front and teach because I am passionate about helping others learn to become better critical thinkers and writers. My goal as a writing teacher has always been to help my students develop the skills necessary to become confident, competent, and creative writers. In a one-on-one situation, I find that my ability to help is greatly increased and I am always thrilled when my students make gains in understanding and ability. I am friendly, positive, and strive to teach the student rather than tell them what to do.
