Experience Summary
Having spent 20 years in the Information Technology field, I recently made the decision to change careers to pursue a life-long dream of teaching. I began college as an education major, but due to life circumstances, changed direction and entered the IT field. As programming is math and logic oriented, teaching math is a natural extension of my skills and experience. I am currently working towards gaining licensure as a middle school math teacher. I enjoy working with children of any age and have tutored friends of my own child.
Teaching Style
Children have many different learning styles, and as an educator it is my job to discern which approach works best for each individual. In teaching math, I believe that all children learn best with a hands-on approach. Providing real-world examples and manipulatives that children can pick up, touch, and move around should be used at all levels – from kindergarten through high school. Doing so helps the student see the problem as more than abstract numbers on a page. I am also driven to help children maintain their natural curiosity and desire to learn. Learning is a life-long process; and there is nothing more rewarding than helping a child succeed and keeping that drive alive.
