Experience Summary
I currently am a research analyst for the Presbyterian Church, USA. I have been employed here since 1988. I conduct all the statistical analyses for the Church, using SPSS. Prior to working for the church, I worked in the Department of Family Practice at the U of L Medical school where I helped faculty and students with statistical analyses using SPSS. I also have worked as a consultant with companies needing help running SPSS. Upon my graduation from the University of Louisville in 1986, I have tutored students needing help with SPSS as needed. While working for my Master's, I was a Graduate Teaching Assistant and taught an intro sociology class.
Teaching Style
Many people find math, statistics, computers, and/or SPSS to be intimidating or scary. I would help the student overcome this fear. I have been using SPSS for about 25 years. I feel I am pretty comfortable using it. SPSS, I feel, is best taught practicing it's use on the computer and not so much read out of a book. SPSS is a programming language and I mainly use syntax to run it but can also use it via pull-down menus. I will work with the student and teach them either or both ways to learn SPSS.
