Experience Summary
In between obtaining my BA in political science and English from the University of Mississippi in 2009 and returning to school for chemical engineering I spent a year and a half working with student governments on college campuses as a political consultant for a public policy organization. I learned to love working with students through this experience, so when I returned to school it seemed natural to become an academic tutor. I have successfully worked with students of all ages in all levels of mathematics up to calculus II at the college level in addition to AP biology, chemistry, physics, government, grammar, writing, reading and ACT prep.
Teaching Style
My teaching style revolves around the idea of mastering important aspects of a subject area before moving to a more difficult subject area. In our current education system, students are allowed to move to more difficult courses without having the necessary building blocks. Through one-on-one tutoring, it is possible to take a couple steps back, assess a student's current capabilities and tailor lessons to the individual student (i.e. one student may need to back track and practice fractions before moving on to more difficult algebra). I also enjoy working with students are looking to excel beyond their grade level by challenging their problem-solving capabilities with new ideas and techniques in a variety of subject areas.
