Experience Summary
I have been tutoring as a volunteer and as a job for a combined 7 years now. I have worked in both one on one tutoring with a dyslexic student, tutoring in specialized topics, and group peer tutoring. My longest individual tutoring experience has been with Aidan, who is dyslexic and I have been working with for 4 years. We focus on taking the larger, more daunting tasks and breaking them into smaller sections. Because of his unique learning style, I have learned many creative ways to present the information at hand. I have experience tutoring a wide range of subjects such as high school and college level chemistry and biology, math, world and US history as well as English.
Teaching Style
My teaching style involves being open and relatable while keeping he conversation related to learning and the subjects of importance. I feel like students respond best when they are in a positive work environment and are pushed to be their best. This involves teaching through the Socratic method, of forcing individuals to answer their own questions. I believe that tutors and teachers should be providing students with the tools and skills they need to be productive students instead of giving away answers.
