Experience Summary
My undergraduate years at Princeton University instilled in me a passion for learning and a personal commitment to academic excellence. Most of my adult work life has been focused on coaching individuals to overcome handicaps and maximize their potential as successful, competent learners. I have had 12 years teaching experience at the high school and college levels. This experience has included individual tutoring as well as classroom teaching. Through training experiences in School Psychology, I have had much experience in counseling and tutoring students who have learning disabilities. Currently, I teach at Cleveland State University in Psychology.
Teaching Style
Learning is always easier when it is fun and interesting. In any given teaching situation I look for ways to add zest to learning.
At the outset of tutoring I do an assessment of where students are currently achieving in a specific subject area, and identify skills that they may be lacking. Next, I develop a learning plan with specific goals. This becomes the basis for a learning contract between myself and the person seeking tutoring. Learning is best achieved in an interactive teaching style where students are encouraged to ask questions and participate in problem solving. I am a patient person who believes that all students can successfully learn.
