Experience Summary
As an University of Iowa graduate I have always held education as a high value. I have dedicated my time to personally achieving excellence in education, as well as helping others do the same. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology, a minor in Social Work and with a year and a half math experience at the college level. During the last couple years I was an Academic Mentor for a high school student at West High School in Iowa City and volunteered my time working with students to help improve their educational skills in West High School's Success Center. As a previous camp counselor I tutored students in an one-on-one and group setting to better their learning skills in preparation for the next school year.
Teaching Style
I truly enjoy working with all students. My past experiences of interacting with children has shown me all children have the ability to learn, but learn at different paces and in different ways. I believe in finding out what learning method works best for each individual student and build from there. I am patient, understanding, and have a strong willingness to help others. I believe effort goes a long way. As long as there is effort on behalf of the student, as well as from the tutor, success can be achieved. My goal is to make simple improvements in small steps to obtain that sense of accomplishment and confidence for the student. As a mentor I will provide encouragement and support to make a difference in each student's life.
