Experience Summary
I am a very methodical and meticulous personality. I graduated from the UF in May 2010 with a BS in Structural Engineering and a minor in Latin American Studies and am working on my master’s degree at Virginia Tech in Geotechnical Engineering. I took extra courses to learn Haitian Creole and Spanish and am in the midst of teaching myself French because I enjoy learning languages. While at the UF, I was a resident assistant for the freshmen residence halls. I mentored and tutored my residents in math, beginner’s chemistry, and physics. My teaching experience includes teaching AutoCAD to freshmen and substituting various physics courses at Melbourne Central Catholic High School. Recently, I have been tutoring my own sister in physics.
Teaching Style
I enjoy being around kids, but I prefer to working with only one or two children in a learning environment. I am very patient but I enforce that the objective is to learn and be proud of his/her success.
I try to teach in a step-by-step method. Knowing that each person is different and learns at different rates, I start out at mid-level and spend more or less time on the topic(explaining, writing note-cards, drawing diagrams, and asking them to repeat methods) based on their understanding. If a student is severely struggling, I will to contact his/her teacher so I can plan sessions appropriately so the student doesn't fall behind.
