Experience Summary
From the beginnings of my education, I have had a strong sense of personal excellence in my academic career. Being home schooled with the accelerated A Beka curriculum, I was able to outperform many of my peers in the public school system. My early education had given me a particularly strong grasp of grammar, reading comprehension, and writing; my proficiency with these increased by studying Latin and Ancient Greek at Trinity University. I graduated with honors from Trinity with a B.A. in Classical Studies, having won awards and having received a full tuition fellowship for the M.A. program at Tulane University. I have tutored in history, reading, writing, and grammar in my spare time, and I am currently a Teaching Assistant at Tulane.
Teaching Style
Tutoring has long been a passion of mine. I find great joy in helping others, particularly children, advance their own knowledge and education. My goal is not simply to have my students learn; I want my students to love learning. I do not want my students to regurgitate facts but to truly understand. I am patient with my students, but I am also persistent in my approach. I never talk down to my students; rather I attempt to bring them up to my level. I am easy-going and have a way of quickly making others at ease with me. I try to make the tutoring environment as stress-free as possible. I believe that encouragement is key in driving students toward success. Once a student believes in himself/herself, learning comes naturally and quickly.
