Experience Summary
As an undergraduate, I spent three years in the education program. I clocked over 100 hours in public schools observing, mentoring, or otherwise working with children in elementary, middle, and high school. I also spent two years as a Writing Center Consultant where I worked with college students on their own writing. I was an ESL tutor for one semester where I worked with two small groups of Japanese speaking students on their English skills. I have also spent the last year as a Graduate Teaching Assistant where I work with one class of freshman composition students each quarter.
Teaching Style
I love working with students of all ages. I believe that everyone can learn when they are given opportunities for success. Those opportunities most often give support to the student, but they also teach the student to take a responsibility for his or her own learning. I believe in teaching students to master concepts in such a way that they can also be successful unsupervised; thus, tutoring or additional instruction is an aid for success, not a crutch.
