Experience Summary
I have a strong background in both science and the humanities. I am a National Merit scholar and hold a BS in Molecular/Cellular Biology and a BA in English from the University of Arizona, as well as a Master of Education (Secondary) from Arizona State University. After earning my BS and BA, I spent three years teaching English as a second language in Japan before returning to the States, where I taught at the secondary level for two years while earning my Master's. As well as classroom teaching, I have extensive one-on-one and small-group tutoring experience in ESL, English composition, biology, chemistry, and Japanese with students of all ages.
Teaching Style
I see myself as a guide and a "project manager" for my students' learning, providing the support, advice, and tools that they need to achieve success. I believe that inquiry-based learning facilitates better retention and the development of a love of education that lasts a lifetime. Every student learns differently, but I believe everyone can learn and succeed.
I am patient, considerate, friendly and helpful, and I am happy to adjust my teaching style to my students' needs and goals. I emphasize creativity, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills that extend beyond subject mastery to make a difference throughout my students' lives.
